After updating to WordPress 5.3, my Reusable Blocks are only visible on the Page it was originally created on from the Add Block Drop Down Menu. Do you have any advice? This feature is extremely convenient for me for this particular website.

  • Hi there,
When you say not visible on other pages, do you mean the Reusable Category on the block inserter?

It could easily be a plugin conflict, I would use the Health and Troubleshooting plugin . It allows you as an admin to deactivate all plugins and use a default theme. (your visitor see your beautiful site). Once you enabled Troubleshooting Mode, try it again and see if it still happens.

Are you able to manage your reusable blocks? (go to 3-dot-menu on the top right and select “Manage reusable blocks” When you are there are you able to download your blocks via “Export to JSON” or do you run into an error message?

    Birgit,

Yes, I mean the Reusable Category is only available on the Block Inserter on whichever page it was originally added to the Reusable Blocks.

I will try the Health and Troubleshooting Plugin. And yes, I still can manage all of the Reusable Blocks.

So, I ran the Health and Troubleshooting Plugin in Troubleshooting Mode, activated each plugin one-by-one and had no issues with the Reusable Blocks. After activating all of the plugins, I could find nothing wrong. I disabled Troubleshooting Mode, and the Reusable Blocks stopped working again.

Also, there are 2 Critical Issues from the Site Health Scan:

#1) The REST API is one way WordPress, and other applications, communicate with the server. One example is the block editor screen, which relies on this to display, and save, your posts and pages.

The REST API request failed due to an error.
Error: [] cURL error 28: Operation timed out after 10001 milliseconds with 0 bytes received

#2) Loopback requests are used to run scheduled events and are also used by the built-in editors for themes and plugins to verify code stability.

The loopback request to your site failed, this means features relying on them are not currently working as expected.
Error encountered: (0) cURL error 28: Operation timed out after 10001 milliseconds with 0 bytes received

Any ideas on how I can fix this?

I feel it’s important to mention that the Health and Troubleshooting Plugin only supports up to PHP 5.6. I’m running PHP 7.1.33 on my server, so I don’t really trust it’s results.

I ended up figuring this out, but thank you for your help. I changed the PHP version from 7.1.33 to 7.1 and the Reusable Blocks are now working and the Health and Troubleshooting Plugin scan shows no Critical Issues.

Ah good. Glad you were able to figure it out. Weird though this would be a PHP issues.

Thanks for marking the topic resolved.
