• I have another website running memberpress, also using Paypal API setup, and I have an auto return URL setup for the website

Now I want to use EDD for my ebook website(using same Paypal Account and a second email) , but I don’t know how to setup the auto return URL for the site running EDD.

    ANy assistance here ?

  • Hi @dannyogolo

There will be no issue in that. You can use EDD with same PayPal account.

When EDD sends data to PayPal then there is a ‘return_path’ as well as ‘notify_url’ so PayPal will redirect back to ‘return_path’ set by EDD and set data to respected URL.

There will be no issue. You can check it by doing test transaction.

Here is the document link which indicates that IPN URL will be set by API and EDD does this Job for you. You do not need to do anything for this.

    Thanks for the response,
But according to EDD docs, I have to set the return URL. And already, there is another website url in that space.

    So what happens?

@dannyogolo When using PayPal Standard it is ‘ideal’ to setup the configuration within PayPal for your IPN, but not required.

With PayPal Standard, we send along the necessary IPN URL information so that PayPal knows where to send the responses for that specific transaction to be completed. This means however, that you may not be able to use the features like refunding a Payment in PayPal and having EDD become aware of it. You would need to manage the payments within EDD or be sure that any actions you take on a payment within PayPal is mirrored within EDD.

    I hope that is clear.

Actually, its not very clear to me. Its to sell an ebook, I expect some refunds. That your statement “but not required” concerns me. I will ideally love to have everything setup nicely, so I can accept and refund easily

@dannyogolo You can still process refunds. Within the Easy Digital Downloads interface, when you choose to refund a payment, there is a checkbox to ‘Refund in PayPal’, which will do all the necessary API calls to PayPal to ensure that the payment is refunded both in EDD and within PayPal.
