    your-url.com/wp-json/media?filter[s]=mp3 or your-url.com/wp-json/media?filter[s]=%2Emp3

    Also, a really advance search ‘ll need more plugins:

    Step 1: Install WordPress 4.3 beta
    Step 2: Install WP REST API (WP API) v2
    Step 3: Install SearchWP plugin 2.6+
    Step 4: Install SearchWP API plugin
