• I need to add an image to an older post and wanted the image to be in the same cronological media folder as the other related images.
Using FTP I added it to the folder /wp-content/uploads/2016/10, but it doesn’t show up in the media library.
Is there a way to get the library index resyncronized with the folder content?
Or can I upload it through ?Upload New Media? and tell it in which folder to put it?

  • Without a plugin, WordPress will use the upload date for the folder to put it in (if you have the option for date folders).
Images are only in the Media Library if they have an entry in the database, made when you upload the image.
You can use a plugin like Import Legacy Media to make the database entry for the file you already FTP’d to the folder.
There are other plugins for Media folders, that let you control what folder a media file is uploaded to.

Thank you Joy, that ist what I hoped for.
Except Import Legacy Media is closed because it was last updated: 11 years ago!
    The other hint promisses more.
Keep up the good work and stay healthy!
