restricting authors to their own media folders

after about 6 years handling my wordpress site alone, i’ve finally decided to include my students as authors. this is my first time allowing other users on my site, and i’ve added several other plugins to help me manage them.

but one thing i couldnt seem to find is the ability to restrict authors to their own media folders. i’ve installed a few media manager plugins to look and see, but most offers custom folders and stuff, but no user specific restrictions.

the reason i’m looking for this is that, i’ll be having hundreds of students over the years who’ll be sharing their artworks on my site. so i want their images to be organised neatly, and at the same time only be able to access their own folders (so they cant disrupt other’s).

the alternative to this is for me to disable media uploads and use external sources like flickr or deviantart. but i’d like it to be hosted on my own servers, if i may.
