Restrict who can disable WordFence?

    Hi folks,

    I run a small website service, as well as provide security/update services for clients on other servers.

    I require that all sites on our servers use WordFence. While many of them understand the value and importance – at least on some level – I’ve had a number of instances where well-meaning clients turn it and various other plugins off for one reason or another.

    Of course, I get a notification when they turn it off, but I’d rather just be able to lock it so that I’m the only one who can disable it.

    Any way to do that, now or in the reasonably near future?

  • Hi Bill, perhaps this will get you on track for removing the “Deactivate” option from the WordPress Plugins list:

    Another approach might be to work on the different types of user permissions.

    Perfect!

    I had already thrown together a little mu-plugin which will remove specified plugins from the list, but I like this one better as it’ll insure that they don’t try to install something that’s already there. I’m not really concerned about them seeing what’s there in most cases, more concerned about them messing with it.

    I’ll try it out as an mu-plugin, which is safer than putting it in Functions. They’ll still be able to remove it via FTP or cPanel, but they’d have to know how to do that.
