• I (newby) am running twentyfourteen and have my members uploaded(formerly in an Access database), and everything works. Now I would like to use a plugin to restrict some database pages to members. Most plugins I have looked at assume the member is defined through the registry process. Should I try to (a)register all the members as subscribers and use a membership plugin that easily restricts page access to a visitor category, or (b) try to define the participants database members to a membership plugin?

Participants Database doesn’t have a login functionality, so you do need to use a membership plugin (or even WP users) if you want to restrict access to some pages. The two can work together, but it’s fairly technical to implement.
