• Hey,

I have a number of sites that I lost and I only have an old backup – I have the database and all files, but every site is showing malware / viruses when I try upload the backup via cPanel.

I did have this problem before and fixed it but my host lost my backups after I fixed all sites.

So right now I need to do a new install for all sites but still keep the database I have and the images for the sites.

Is there a quick way to do this?

Im doing about 10 sites ??

I think they are on different versions so I will also have to upgrade them for security fixes, the latest backup I have is around 8 months old.

    Id really appreciate any help

    Thanks very much

  • Hello John,

This should be possible. If you have a clean WordPress install set, what you want to do is import your backed up database. Do you have access to your database through a MySQL client like phpMyAdmin or desktop application like MySQL WorkBench? If so, you can go into the fresh WordPress database and drop all the existing tables since they don’t have any data you need. Then, in phpMyAdmin, you can choose Import and upload your SQL backup. If the domain of the site in your backed-up data is different than the destination (it doesn’t sound like this is the case for you) then you will have to do a search and replace in the database to change the old domain to the new one. You could do this with a tool like https://interconnectit.com/products/search-and-replace-for-wordpress-databases/.

    Hope this helps,
    Scott
