• I keep getting “This block containe unexpected or invalid conent”. I overcome it by clicking on the “Autosave” version but clicking on Auto-Save this time gave me the same three unsuable blocks which would mean two days of lost work. Any way to see my revision till an hour or two ago. In WordPress 4 I could go to Screen Options but now Screen Options but in WordPress 5 is not in the top right anymore.

THanks @abir43tee. I don’t want to downgrade to WordPress 4 but find a way to access the earlier revisions in WordPress 5.

Maybe you’d be better off with the older editor. This plugin will set you back to the older editor which is what you had in 4.X.

Also, you probably should try to stay with version 5.0.3 for now but you can revert back to an older version if you are experiencing other issues with 5.X. 5.0.3 seems to work well for me and 5.1 is coming soon.

The 5.1 version promises to be very stable and has some features you probably won’t notice but those changes might really help a few unstable installs recover themselves from certain errors. I’m looking forward to that change.

One more thought on the editor… after you install the Classic Editor plugin there’s a selection to allow you to run both editors with the system defaulting to either one you wish.

I recommend you set that up in the future and get started trying to use the Block Editor when you have time to experiment with it. The Block Editor is the future and is a very powerful enhancement. You’ll want to take advantage of that as you go forward.

The other good news is if you had the ‘Tiny MCE Advanced’ editor installed before you updated to 5.X you’ll probably find that editor enhancement returns when you install the Classic Editor plugin.

@jnashhawkins thanks for the advice so I guess no way to access the older revisions now. Yes seeing a lot of problems where it gets stuck on updating and have to open a new instance and get the saved version and save the changes from auto-save but when auto-save is corrupted too, there seems to be no way. Had just installed Classic Editor and MCE Advanced Editor an hour earlier so very prescient of your advise. Am loving Gutenberg because I can have container blocks of different colors for easier demarcation of different models of a vehicle. Look forward to 5.1.

I’m going to say no to the Block Editor revisions for now as in ‘if you don’t see them? Then they must not be there!’.

I haven’t done a lot with the Block Editor myself… Maybe you might find starting out with the Classic Editor to create the base post or page then switching to the Block editor for final tweaks and further enhancements might be a viable alternative. A final save before switching editors would be a very good idea.

The Classic Editor seems to still autosave and even save within the browser if the connection drops out for a bit. Of course, you can’t close the editor until the host catches back up and comm is re-established.

I haven’t tried that yet but that seems reasonable on the surface. I’m just very set in my ways now and very busy most of the time so I limit my experimenting to what seems important at the time. Unfortunately, the Block Editor isn’t on my personal priority list right now.

@jnashhawkins I re-created it and lost it again. I hope 5.1 will fix this problem, am now hooked on Gutenberg so will plod through. Thanks for your help.
