    Hey Cory,

Just wanted to clarify sth re restoring htaccess, esp when migrating from/to different sub-domains.

    Restore – Step 1 – Config Files
If I use the default Create New option, then Duplicator will do its thing and create a new htaccess file. I’ve been using this option forever, but need to manually backup and restore htaccess (and modify it when necessary to reflect new dir paths, etc.).

If I select the Restore Original option, I assume Duplicator correctly restores htaccess from the source dir.

But…since the config footnote references user.ini and web.config, I’m unclear as to how Duplicator will process files such as Wordfence’s user.ini.

Could you shed some light on this? I’ve searched thru the support forum and 3rd party docs, but not seeing anything that addresses this issue…

Worst case scenario, my current manual restore from a separate backup works…

    Thx!

  • Hey @imincognito,

The web.config file is only applicable if you are running the IIS web server. The user.ini file only pertains to the Wordfence security plugin settings and if you are using that specific plugin.

Let me know if that helps~

    Hey Cory,

    Thx for the quick reply.

I am in fact using wordfence, but I don’t see a user.ini file (even though it’s referenced in htaccess)…

I’ve seen some posts on the wordfence forums re user.ini getting auto-deleted because it points to the wrong (i.e. original source) site, so maybe that’s what happened here.

In any event, is fair to say that if I use the restore original option, duplicator will restore the source htaccess, as well as user.ini (if it exists), and I would need to modify those before attempting to login to delete the duplicator install files.

If that’s the case, probably easier to just backup htaccess before I use duplicator and restore it when duplicator is finished…:>)

There are several options you can choose from in the installer, the default one works for most installs, however, there are some cases where manual updates have to be made, unfortunately. We are working to try and automate those processes when we can.

    Thanks
