    Hello,

I have installed the SG optimizer plugin and compressed (with backup enabled) all my existing images.
I started with low compression 25%, then re compressed to 60, then again to 80.
My thought was that it would always use the original images to recompress, but seeing the quality of my images, I thing the compression has been piling up to the point where images are now quite blurry.

What is the method to restore my original images ? I ddisabled compression but images are still blurry..

    Thanks

    Hello @kanten,

If the “Back up all original images” option is enabled, we first create a backup of the original image and save it with “.bak.” prefix before the image extension. For example:

    image.jpg -> original image
image.bak.jpg -> backup of the original image

If you wish to restore the original images, you should simply choose:

Media -> Image Compression -> Edit -> Compression Level -> None

You can try to modify your images again with the desired compression level but I would recommend you to check for other activated optimization plugins on your application. In case, you use separate image compression plugins at the same time, this may lead to unexpected results during the optimization process.

    Regards,
    Vladimir

Thank you for you fast reply.
I exactly did this, but after selecting none, the images are still blurry.
Is that because I compressed 2 times my images ? (thinking it would restore originals before re compress, but apprently it doesn’t)

Also where can I find the .bak files to check on their quality ?

I backed up all the uploads folder to my computer before doing all this.
Can I delete the years folders and reupload the ones I have to fix all this ?

    Thank you for clarifying

    Hi @kanten,

Once your images are compressed at a high level, they cannot be reverted as the information is already lost. This is why we recommend enabling the backup option, except in the cases where the images are too many as this could take up your disk space.

The backup files are generated under the same folder where the original files are located. Generally, there is no problem to create your own backup as well. You can then delete all images and restore them from your backup.

In your case, if you have backed up the whole uploads/ folder, you can just delete/rename the original one and then upload the backup folder to the server.
