    Hello,

    First thanks for your plugin.

Looks pretty complete and really like it.

But I have an issue with the backup and restore and really would like to use your plugin as it is very simple to use and powerful.

All the theme configuration are reset after restoring the backup and emoticon are replaced by question marks.

    Here is a video: https://www.loom.com/share/30782e6811fa4de1afd5d9a76bee23f3

Happened before when I was using the hosting Siteground. On my actual hosting restore works fine.

They identified the issue from their side and were going to fix it, but I changed hosting anyway.

Here is a copy of the issue they found:

I would like to update you that our System Administrators had identified a bug with the backup system. The backup system is using the server’s default charset which is utf8 upon restoration. Our colleagues created a task in our system and the issue will be addressed.

So, I think the issue comes from the default charset and guessing your plugin doesn’t support ours or doesn’t backup or restore using the right charset…

What can we do to make it work?

Thanks in advance for your help.

    Kind regards,

    Marco

    Hello,

    Thanks for your feedback.

I am not certain if it is related to the UTF-8/chart, I was just pointing out what a hosting where I had the same issue thought they found out…

But might be related to something else. Surely, I am not the only one having this issue…?

They were saying that “The backup system is using the server’s default charset which is utf8 upon restoration.”

So, that might be the issue…

Maybe another charset need to be selected upon restoration…

But I must admit I have no idea…

I am just guessing that someone like you who created a backup/restore plugin might know.

If you have a clue, please let me know.

    Best regards,

    Marco

Seriously I have tried so many plugins and yours is the best out there for backup/restore (but the issue here) and I really would like to use it.

I think it might be because of the utfmb4, I am using utf8 instead.

I made the fix, you can download it and replace the files on your server https://github.com/lesterchan/wp-dbmanager/archive/master.zip and do the backup again. Here are the changes: https://github.com/lesterchan/wp-dbmanager/commit/a843059753eb53642af40d14097b300053c86a1b

The backup needs to specify the charset but restore don’t need.
