My website went glitchy a few days ago and I would like to restore it to it’s original state.

I have selected Restore and the orange pop-up box appears with the message ‘Downloading / preparing backup files…’. I have left the box up for over an hour and nothing has moved or changed.

I did make a back-up to drop-box and figured I may need to install manually but am finding it a little confusing. One of the folders in the dropbox is 60mb I assume this is why the orange box isn’t moving?

    Can you help me please?

    Hi kittersa,

60Mb is not big. You should see the download bar moving across quite quickly. If not, then close the dialogue box, and re-open. If that doesn’t work, then you can just:

    1) download from Dropbox to your PC (from the Dropbox website)
    2) upload to your website via FTP – put it in the wp-content/updraft folder

If that doesn’t work, then you may get some more clues by turning on the ‘debug’ setting down the bottom of the UD page, clicking ‘Save Changes’, and then trying again… and then going via FTP into wp-content/updraft and finding the most recent file called “log.(something).txt”, and reading that file.

If that’s too tricky or doesn’t work, you could the FAQs at updraftplus.com, which have the procedure for a manual restore (i.e. not via the dashboard)… if that’s too intimidating, then you can try a support package from: https://updraftplus.com/shop/ – the restore package is something like $35, I think.

    Hi kittersa,

Was that on the Dropbox website (www.dropbox.com) as I mentioned? It sounds like you were trying to do it from the UD settings page panel, which is different. (I’m suspecting something on your website is breaking part of the panel, so I’ve directed you to ways that work around that).

Clicking Debug and installing the files onto FTP from Dropbox appeared to get me past the Orange Pop-up box. I reciecived a long breakdown of what happened and at the bottom of it says:

Warning: copy() [function.copy]: The first argument to copy() function cannot be a directory in /websites/123reg/LinuxPackage22/th/ys/tr/thystride.com/public_html/wp-admin/includes/class-wp-filesystem-direct.php on line 200
Error message: Could not move new directory into place. Check your wp-content/upgrade folder.

    Restore failed...

My website seems to have reverted somewhat back to it’s original state but no images are being displayed.

What version of UpdraftPlus do you have?

The message indicates a problem with file permissions in your wp-content folder – you need to make sure that WordPress has permission to manipulate any+all content in that folder. Your web hosting company will know what that means on their particular setup, so ask them for help if needed.

Alternatively, unpack the zip file on your PC and upload the contents into the relevant sub-directory of wp-content by FTP manually.

It appears inside FTP that the 2013 Uploads folder is empty, do you think dropping the unzipped folder for Uploads inside FTP should resolve the issue? It won’t corrupt the site further will it?

When you unzip the uploads zip on your PC, it’ll have sub-directories like ‘2013’ and perhaps others. Drop those sub-directories via FTP inside wp-content/uploads on your website, and all will be well.

P.S. First remove the empty 2013 folder from your site – or just merge them, depending on how your FTP program operates.

It seems to have fixed the problem, thanks so much for the quick support.
