REST API error 404

  • Hi all;

    I’ve seen around a few posts that say there’s an issue with .htaccess that causes the REST API to return error 404, but I’ve reset my permalinks several times to no avail.

    My current set-up is a low-cost debian-based server located in our office (port forward of 80 and 443 only, FTP, SSH and others are LAN only). I’ve set up the server and WordPress but I’m unable to edit any of the pages because the REST API is returning E404. I’m not sure to repair this. The usual “reset your .htaccess” hasn’t worked and I couldn’t find many other solutions, and those I did were based on Windows so not applicable.

    Any help would be appreciated.

    ADDITIONAL INFO:

    I followed a few guides on installing WordPress on Debian, some PHP module packages and a few other bits were missing after the installation. Is it possible there’s a Debian package for the API which I was previously unaware of? Thanks.

    UPDATE:

    I’ve reset the Permalinks to “plain” and this has alleviated the issue. It’s not the ideal solution, but our website works now and that’s something at least.
