I am trying to create a table on a post that is due in a few days, so it is in scheduled mode at the moment.

Have tried reaching Tobias B?thge in Twitter in hope of him being able to guide me. Couldn’t even pay for a donation due to his form not working properly.

I had assumed that I would need to pay to discover how to make TablePress tables truly responsive on all devices; yet even that effort failed me.

Have since notice that Tobias B?thge has this plugin listed on GitHub which makes me think he’s prepared to abandon it.

Please advise if you can assist me in getting these two plugins TablePress v1.14 and Responsive Tables Extension v1.8 to simply make my table fully responsive, as is promised on the pages boasting about these two plugins?

The theme I’m using is GeneratePress Premium v3.2.2 and WordPress v6.1, as I’m sure you will need to know this.

Your assistance will be GREATLY appreciated.

    Thank you in advance,
    Trish

    Hi Trish,

thanks for your post, and sorry for the trouble.

Thanks for your tweet! As it’s Saturday today, I’m spending time with my family and didn’t yet have time to reply earlier.

Can you explain what the exact problem with the donation form was? What donation method did you want to use? I would really like to investigate any issues with the form, obviously.
(Note that donating is not required for the Responsive Tables Extension and will of course not have any impact on its function.)

Regarding GitHub: I have no clue why you believe that I’m planning to abandon TablePress. (GitHub is a development platform that TablePress uses, and as it’s open source, that’s why it’s listed there and that’s why its code is available there.) In fact, quite the opposite is true. A major TablePress update is coming very soon: https://tablepress.org/8-million-downloads-tablepress-2-0/

Now, in order for me to find out what the responsiveness issues with your page/table is, I’d need to directly see it. Can you please post a link to the page with the table where this problem happens, so that I can take a direct look? Thanks!
Also, please explain what mode for responsiveness you would like to you on the table, and whether you added the corresponding parameter to the Shortcode on the page where you are showing the table.

    Regards,
    Tobias

    Hey Tobias,

Pheeeeew, glad you won’t be deserting this plugin. So many users have stated that your plugin is THE best for building tables in WordPress.

    The donation issue…
When selecting my preference to use PayPal, I was only given the option of verifying via text, meaning I’d have to click a link sent in text or use WhatsApp. PayPal always texts me numbers to type in, in order to verify. And I do NOT have access to WhatsApp.

Flip phone is ONLY for emergencies… not chatting on. That would be far to expensive.

When trying to use a credit card, that option would NOT load.

    With the short link…
I did try adding different corresponding parameters to the Shortcode but they all failed, and I have since removed them.

One was 10|20|20|20|20 — and I did make sure to mimic the format you provided on one of your pages of instructions.

And, I’ve forgotten what the other parameters were now that I tried.

I spent far too long on that post last night, trying to resolve this issue.

This morning I decided to hold off releasing that article until December 16, in hope of resolving the table.

What I was hoping for is to have the table be fully responsive so that a user NEVER has to scroll sideways to see the information, in ALL devices.

Being an old-school designer who was taught to NEVER have a user scroll sideways… and that I learned back when using only HTML to build tables… only using CSS and forcing a table to be scrolled vertically was unacceptable.

I will GLADLY trust you with login details to my blog so you can see the post for yourself if you’d like. But I cannot provide the login details here for obvious reasons.

Please tell me how to get that information to you?

Thank YOU for responding to my cry for help. You’ve made me a happier camper ??

    Hi,

no, TablePress is not going away ??

    For the donation issue:
Unfortunately, there’s nothing really that I can do here ?? What you describe is solely in the hands of PayPal, unfortunately. They decide when and which verification they require, or how they handle credit cards. Unfortunately, I can’t influence that ??

    For the Shortcode parameters:
That 10|20|20|20|20 looks like you were trying to use the column_widths Shortcode parameter. That will most likely not work for making the table “responsive”, simply as your column widths likely are at their lower limit already.

I don’t share these objections to sideways scrolling (people are used to it, they have a smartphone that literally was made for touching and swiping in all directions after all), but I fully understand if that’s not what you are looking for.

If your table is too wide on small screens, like phones then, you’d have to choose between the stack and collapse mode from https://tablepress.org/extensions/responsive-tables/ then, as these won’t require scrolling.
(Other, but often bad, alternatives would be to reduce the font size of the table on small screens, or hide (maybe) irrelevant columns, or accept (potentially) ugly line breaks from word wrapping right inside long words.)

Accepting login details to the admin area of your site is not possible for me, as that’s not allowed by the forum rules of these forums. Such details are not needed anyways: I really only need to see the page with the table. Now, you mention that you’ll only be publishing that on December 16. Can you maybe publish that temporarily on a test page? (You could make that a password protected post/page, so that your site’s visitor will not see the page, and then send me that password by email (the address is on https://tablepress.org/impressum/ ).

    Regards,
    Tobias

    Hi Tobias,

Even Generate Press experts who’ve had previous complaints of your plugin not playing nice with their theme… even he could NOT figure out why your plugins would not make make my table responsive… and he was not objective with logging in with temp access that I gave him.

WordPress developers used to always login whenever users did not object… but in today’s world… I cannot blame you.

If you’d prefer, I’ll move a copy of the entire site to a temp server where I can publish the post for you to see for yourself.

Would that make it possible for you to be able to figure this out?

    Hi,

yes, that sounds like a good strategy. Please get in touch by email (the address is on https://tablepress.org/impressum/ ) so that we can discuss that directly.

Check out the second message sent Tobias. Web host support had to fix the issue with password reset. Now fixed and I tested it. 2nd email has the info.

    Thanks,
