Responsive re-sizing of Images too small and margins too large

I noticed that on a mobile phone the images do re-size but they get really tiny and the margins around the image get proportionally very large. There seems to be a lot of wasted space around the image that could be used to make the images more legible on such a small screen.

Is there a solution to this? Thanks for your help.
