I was wondering if anyone knows of the licencing of the reSmush.it API.

I’ve been unable to find any information on https://resmush.it and there’s no way to contact them on their site. There are also no T&Cs, Privacy inforamation or GDPR compliance details.

I’ve also been unable to find a github repository for the actual compression api.

Considering “there’s no free lunch” and given they have to pay for 7 servers, i wonder how and why they are the only ones offering this for free.

Appreciate this support forum is related to the actual plugin, but since it uses underlying technology from a third party and pushes the images away from WP, it should also provide this information.

    Thanks in advance

    Hi George,

We’re currently reworking our website, which will include a section about GPDR, where everything will be explained.

What I can say, there’s no use of pictures, they’re stored for 15 minutes and completely removed after. As we’re really concerned about privacy, pictures are not transfered to tier, and we only store few informations about the optimized pictures only for the service statistics (filesize, time of process, picture name).

The WP plugin contains a MIT licence (here is the repo : https://github.com/charlyie/resmushit-wordpress).

About the Free usage, we’re working on a premium version which will help ot pay the servers also for the FREE usage. The main principle was to bring to the community a simple and free service to optimize picture. The premium plan will include more advanced options #keepposted ??

If you like our service do not hesitate to rate us, and ask questions about GPDR, we’ll be glad to help ??

    Cheers,
    Charles
