• Hi there

    I’m extremely new to Word Press and a definite CSS dummy. I’m trying to resize the logo on my site https://www.home-english.co.uk (word press version not currently live) which is in the Sela template. I don’t want it to be as large as 1000 px wide. I’ve read on this forum that I need to adjust the CSS but where exactly do I do this? When I go into the Appearance/Editor section of Admin it all looks a bit confusing.

    In addition, I’ve added a header image but I’m unable to view it. Do I need to use a particular Sela template to add a header image?

    Also, on the homepage, it’s added the name of the page (Home) to the content box. Is there anyway to get rid of this?

    Hope to hear from someone soon. Thanks for your help in advance!

  • Hi lplotnek —

    Another way to resize your logo if you’re not yet CSS savy is to resize it in photoshop or your graphic editor of choice – any editor should be fine. Once you have it sized like you want, save it and upload your new image to your images folder.

    Hope this helps.

    Hello Iplotnek,

    Hi Laura, I’m seeing a “coming soon” page, but here’s some guidance around your questions.

    In addition, I’ve added a header image but I’m unable to view it. Do I need to use a particular Sela template to add a header Image?

    The custom header is added via the Customizer’s header panel, at Appearance > Customize > Header image. Once you’re there you can upload a header image.

    In terms of a logo, I’d recommend adding one through the Customizer as well, as long as you have the Jetpack plugin active. Once you activate it, there’ll be new a site logo option in the Customizer, under Site Title, Tagline and Logo.

    I’m not sure what method you’ve been using so far, or why your logo is appearing so large, but give the above method a try and let me know how it goes.

    Also, on the homepage, it’s added the name of the page (Home) to the content box. Is there anyway to get rid of this?

    That’s coming from your page title. You can either rename “Home” to some other wording in your post editor for the homepage, or hide it with some custom CSS:

    .home .entry-title {
      display: none;
    }

    Don’t edit the theme files directly, otherwise your changes will be overwritten whenever the theme is updated.

    An easy way to add custom CSS is to install the Jetpack plugin and activate the Custom CSS module. You’ll then add your custom CSS in the new stylesheet editor that’ll appear in your dashboard, under Appearance > Edit CSS.

    When I go into the Appearance/Editor section of Admin it all looks a bit confusing.

    Do not make any changes through this editor. If you do, you’ll lose all your tweaks the next time you update the theme to the latest version.
