Resizing Images

Another question! I wanted to keep it separate from my other questions in case someone else is dealing with the same issue. I have two image size/resizing questions.
(1) When I select my featured image and save the post, it appears as HUGE within the actual post. I’ve tried reducing the size but instead of maintaining the new size, the theme stretches the image so it ends up being just as huge as before. The image takes up the bulk of the post. ??
(2) The post thumbnails on my blog front page are also unusually large. The were originally the same size as the thumbnails for the FEATURED POSTS, but are now somehow very large and none of the “resize image” plugins will fix it.
