Resizing image on front page not working

Hi there,
I am trying to resize the picture on my homepage and it is not working. I am going to “media” click the edit link by the picture, “scale image” “save” “upload.” Then when I check the preview in my other window, nothing has happened. Yes, I refreshed the screen. I went through this process several times in both IE and Firefox and the picture size did not change even when I scaled it way down. Any idea why I can’t change the picture size? Thank you!
