Rescuing Old Posts

  • Ive seen this before, but not exactly the same. I had to reinstall wordpress and in anticipation of that I made a copy to my desktop of everything in the directory on my remote site then deleted the files from the remote site. Now that I have wordpress back again, I need to know where inside those folders are my damn posts that I wrote? Or how I am suposed to get them back. Please dont get too technical on me though, im not a total rookie but if I was as good as the rest of you I wouldnt be asking the question. Thank you very much for your help, and have a great day.     Thank you for answering but I looked for that database name on my remote site and didnt find it, and I also looked in the folder I copied to my desktop and couldnt find in either. Any tips on where that thing is or if I need a special program to see the files? Thank you again, and please treat me like an idiot in your response, I searched pretty hard through those files and came up empty handed so obviously I dont know as much about this as I thought.     You won’t find the database in your site directory anywhere. It does not exist in file form inside your website. Your posts,comments, settings, and everything that actually pertains to written content is stored in an SQL database in an application that resides on your hosts servers. The good news is, you can access, alter, backup and restore that data. Usually through your host-provided control panel.

    That may assist in understanding database backup and restores.

    If you have access to a MySql management tool available to you in your host provided control panel, I urge you to investigate that option first, and discover how it can work for you before trying any other options. Your hosting service may even have some tutorials or FAQ’s available on how to use it. Good luck to you.
