• Is it possible to (by default) have a blog “locked” … meaning, that user/authors need to login first (using their WP username/password) to do anything (view posts, make posts, etc.)?

  • I guess you should put the whole “stuff” in a password protected directory… or something like that.

Could you explain what you mean by that?

That might work, but I would like the users to login using their WP username/password … ???

You will have to make a Google search for that, since it isn’t really a WP related question. The majority of us are using a publishing tool (a.k.a. WP) for content that’s available for public.
Sorry for not being able to help more.
I know about the possibility of pw protecting a directory, but have never used it.

Strange, I would consider it very do-able to alter (?) or use the author’s priviliages (0-10) in order to view certain page/posts … I don’t know.

That’s not the same what you asked initially.
Search for view level plugin or something like that

You could employ the use of this plugin: https://fortes.com/projects/wordpress/postlevels
