Required field question

Our form is currently showing the phone number field to be a required field if someone doesn’t fill it out to it’s liking (ex. including dashes in the phone number instead of just numbers). Can this be adjusted to allow for dashes in the phone number or do I need to add a note letting users know to only enter numbers?
