Required field not showing on some orders

We currently have a site running woocommerce and wordpress. We have the product field plugin and use it for dedicated messages for certain products. The field is a text area field set to required for the message.
Recently we are not getting the message field passing to the completed order screen, I am unsure if this is because the user bypassed the field somehow (though I cannot replicate this issue) or that the field information is not being passed to the completed order.
Any assistance on this matter would be appreciated.
