Require new users to verify account via email

I just signed up with a forum account so I could post this question. In the process, this WordPress forum required me to verify my email address, where I was provided a unique url that I clicked to confirm my identity and that I own the email address provided during registration.

1. What tool/plugin does WordPress use to implement this new user account verification process?

2. Is there a native WP tool OOTB that can be toggled to require new users to verify their account via email?

3. Another side question: Let’s say that I’m using this “Social Login” plugin – If i’m able to implement an email verification tool, how will that affect allowing a social login option?
