In order to check if the plugin is working after installation, I’d like to be able to run the plugin at will. Now I have to wait for an unknown amount of time before it runs.

I don’t understand what you are taking about. Do you mean that you need to wait for plugin and theme updates in order to test if the plugin works?

It would be great if I could run the check your plugin does with the press of a button.

Hope that clarifies it, if not. This is what I’m trying to do:

EUM updates all my core, plugins and themes. But not the one form Elegant Themes. That have a plugin you install and put your key in as payed subscriber. ManageWP always updated their themes too.

I’m not using ManageWP anymore, but your plugin to update everything automatically. For some reason it seems to skip all themes from Elegant Themes. So I’m trying different settings and would like to run you plugin at will to see if it works for what I’m trying to do.

There is no feature for this at the moment and it most likely will never be a feature. I can check with our development team but I wouldn’t get your hopes up.

For now I would just change the version number in the file to trigger the update again. You can do this by going into the main PHP file and you will see a field titles Version: xxx. Just change the version number to something lower then the version number there and it will trick WordPress into thinking that there is an update available for the plugin.

No problem. Thanks for using our plugin.

I’m guessing the issue, but I think it might be the problem.

This plugin works insanely well at updating WordPress hosted plugins/themes.

Where it currently falls short are third-party plugins/themes that have their own update mechanism.

I’ll add this as an issue to our GitHub repo and try to do a fix if we can find one. As with all third-party plugins/themes, we simply can’t test this out unless we have the product and valid license, so it’s very difficult to troubleshoot.

I have a Gravity Forms license, so I’ll start there to try to figure out why it isn’t working.

    Verdi,

We also have an open enhancement issue on GitHub possibly related to your initial topic. Would this functionality, if added, resolve this issue for you?

@ronald: Apologies for my late answer. Yes! This would very likely solve my problem (and save my a lot of time, updating about 20 sites that use Elegant Themes).

Please let me know if/when the update is done. I would happily test it out for you and provide feedback in your preferable form (f.e. User Story, screenshots, you name it)

Thank you for taking the time.

Verdi, thanks for the offer of help.

I definitely want to figure out the third-party automatic updates and have a “force auto update” option in the Advanced Tab.

I’m going to preface what I say next with: I love coding for this plugin and the fact that is has helped so many people pleases me greatly. The support I get and the code I contribute, it is my pleasure.

That being said, I can’t give you a timeline. I work on this project (and many others) in my free time, so I sincerely apologize for the inconvenience, but it’s just a matter of finding the time right now.

We will get to it. Just it won’t happen tomorrow, or even next week or so.

But thank you SO much for the feedback. Let’s work together. Let’s get this plugin perfect.

@ronald: Many thank for getting back, no hurry. I really know what it’s like to do unpaid work in free time, simply because I love it. Have fun and let me know when I can help you with testing. I’ll gladly make time to do so!

Its ok. I am still learning to code a lot as well. Testing is always appreciated and it extremely helpful to us. We will post here when we are ready for the testing of 5.2. Thanks!

    Verdi,

We have added the button to our trunk branch.

We tested it out with third-party plugin Gravity Forms on Single Site. Multisite still has some issues, but I’m not sure those are solvable at this point.

If you want to download the zip, we added a Force check in the Advanced tab.

We also increased the priority of the filters so that other plugins can’t override our settings.

    Hi Matthew,

I just saw the “Force Updates”-button under the Advanced tab in the public version. It works just great. If it also updates Elegant Themes, is something I can try out when new updates arrive. I’ll keep this tab pinnend to update you an that.

Do I still want me to download the Trunk version you mentioned?

    Cheers,

    Verdi.
