• I am looking for someone to make a language selector where someone can put ( en | de | fr ) or something in that mannger and it will display the blog in that lanauge from that point on by using cookies.

    I looked around, but only found ones that were broken and didn’t work. I’m hoping someone will make a working 1.5.x plugin of this kind, thank you.

  • Did you find this one: https://fredfred.net/skriker/index.php/polyglot
    For some people it works ??

    That’s the one I tested and it didn’t work at all, the plugin was completely broken and didn’t load.

    For me it worked only partially – meaning for the posts, but never to change the menu and the other stuff. But I’ve seen people with happy feedback in the comments there. I am also looking for something that would work in a painless manner ??

    I’m still looking for something that will just set a cookie and change the language using the WP files.

    Thanks

    I will upload one maybe today or tomorrow. Check out blog.taragana.com for an example.

    Well, not for me. I am looking forward to have a functioning, real multilingual blogging plugin/hack whatever.

    moshu, not sure what you mean. Could you explain?

    angsuman, that looks great!

    @jwurster,
    please, see my last post on my blog for a detailed answer. Thanks for asking, it forced me to finally sit down and write the article I wanted for a while ago ??

    @moshu

    The Translator plugin is aimed at people who write in English, yet want to make their blog available to non-English readers.

    Machine translation isn’t the best, however most of us (including myself) cannot afford (time and cost wise) to translate each posts (personally or through professional translation services) to multiple languages. This plugin is targeted for such users.

    Moshu> For me multilingual now means having posts in more than one language.

    Well, this plugin is a translation service.
    It doesn’t aim to be multilingual blogging service.

    @angsuman,
    I know exactly what your plugin is – and I even admitted its usefulness under certain conditions.
    However I think the OP was looking for something else.
    On the other hand since you introduced your plugin with Let me know if this is what you are looking for… I stated briefly that it isn’t ??
    One more remark: the last thing what I want in a multilingual blog to have all the articles in two or more languages. I’d would rarely do that, but I would really like to have only one blog having posts in different languages AND the possibility to “filter” them by the language for different visitors etc. (Eh, I don’t want to repeat what I just posted.)

    Moshu> For me multilingual now means having posts in more than one language.

    I actually quoted you verbatim from your post ??

    I understand what you are looking for too. For example I am a Bengali. It would be fun to write few posts in Bengali and made them accessible to Bengali readers only. Hopefully someone will solve the problem or I will tackle that next time ??

    I thought about using language categories for something like this. But how about using tags? Then you don’t have to mess with your categories? Of course that doesn’t fix the problem of the theme still being in the primary language.

    For my purposes – I can see using both a “translated version of every post” as well as selective multilingual posting.

    Just my 2 cents…
