• I’m not entirely sure this is possible, but i’ll ask anyway.
We have an ecommerce site with about 100 categories. We do have a left sidebar that shows all our categories but it is quite long.

We found a lot of people would simply search “xperia z” in the top, quite large, search bar. I assume its too much work to siff through the categories to get to xperia z, and much easier just to type it in and hit enter.

Because the “z” is so short i guess, it would display xperia s, and other xperia models as well, which i understand. So this is an issue with iphone 5 as well, and just about every smart phone model there is.

Now my request or question is: is it possible that if someone searches xperia z that it takes them to the parent category of xperia z instead giving the search results? Perhaps just with a yes or no tick in the back-end.

But it only works if the search term is exactly the same as the category name. So xperia z red, would take them to the normal search page. Galaxy s4 would show up the category page, Galaxy s4 polkadot would show the regular search.

Can you see how that might be useful?

    Hi oomskaap,

Thanks for posting your request. I’m always open to improve this plugin and add more features to it.

Sadly, you’re asking me to add a very specific feature into a plugin which was built to be ‘simple and easy to use’. It is my personal opinion that the majority of the websites won’t use the feature you’re requesting.

I’ve been thinking to add in a future release a full sentence search mode, if user searches by “word1 word2” using quotes. This can be useful for your website since it will narrow the search results of “xperia z” into the exact product post.

In the end, if you really think this is a major ‘must have’ to your website, I can develop a customised add-on for you. For this matter email me.
