We are a hosting provider and have dozens of Wordfence installations per server.
We thought it would be a good idea to provide the GeoLite2-Country.mmdb file centrally and keep updating it, putting symbolic links to that file in the wordfence’s lib directories.

We did this and noticed that Wordfence can no longer update itself, complaining of an “unwritable” file. We had to remove all the symbolic links and copy the file(s) themselves — many copies.

This leads to inefficient data storage, and a lack of current files on the system – that is, the GeoLite file cannot be updated centrally and regularly.

Please have the programmers work on this issue so updating Wordfence no longer fails if the GeoLite file is a symbolic link.. Thank you!

Hi @tkalfaoglu, thanks for getting in touch.

I am able to contact our development team about customer feature requests, and have done so. All requests are discussed for possible inclusion. However here on the forums, we can’t commit to progress updates, whether a feature will definitely be added, or what timescale may be given to any updates that are scheduled.

Because of this, from time-to-time we do work with hosts and other plugin developers directly should we need to make critical changes for compatibility reasons. You could try officially reaching out to our team using genbiz @ wordfence . com if you feel that this is an imperative way of updating the GeoLite2-Country.mmdb file on customer sites.

    Thanks,

    Peter.
