Reposting snippet of own work and link

  • I hope I’m in the right place. I was wondering two things with the same issue. I post an external link and the first paragraph or so of articles I’ve written for other sites. It’s in my blog and is separated for each article.

    1. How does this affect my ranking, SEO, etc? I know Google has the whole “duplicate content” thing to think about…

    2. On a lighter (or possibly more important) note. Aside from #1 above, how does this look professionally? Is this something I should just reference to on my site that I’ve done work elsewhere?

    Sorry to waste your time. I just saw in another thread someone asked a similar question and got some good feedback. My question was just a bit different.

    My take on SEO… Don’t let SEO get in the way of doing what is best for your own interests.

    Content is King. Reposts and links are cool… Might cost you a bit on search but if your content is good then do what you need to do.

    I run Yoast and let it fuss a little. I’ll look to see what Yoast is upset about… sometimes I’ll act on it. Sometimes not.

    Now, if you’re running a store or business online you probably need search results to bring in traffic. But if you’re publishing or blogging then you need return visits.

    Do what seems appropriate.

    BTW: this seems like a good question to ask over at Quora.com.
