Replacing the Author Box with a plug-in

I’m experimenting with the NewMedia theme. It’s a bit limiting. Anyone know how to turn off the embedded Author Box (no formatting just run-on sentences and a photo) so I can replace it with the plug-in author box that looks better? Right now both author boxes show up in the post
