Replacing sidebar with widgets – can i go back?

Hi

We’re using a sidebar on our blog, hardcoded into sidebar.php. I want to use widgets instead.

However if for some reason something gets messed up, and I remove all the widgets, will the sidebar.php file be re-instated to display that sidebar code? Or once I switch to widgets do I need to stick with them?
