• Hi,

I’m having an issue replacing content that is in the blog excerpt field. Best I can tell, that content exists within the wp_posts table but running Better Search Replace on that table only seems to change the main body content. Am I working with the wrong table or does Better Search Replace not work with post fields?

    Thanks

    Hi @garrymill2000 ,

Better Search Replace Support Team here. Thanks for reaching out with your query! We would be happy to assist.

Post excerpts should be within the ‘wp_posts’ table, under the ‘post_excerpt’ column. If you have selected the wp_posts table in your search and replace, then the plugin should also be able to edit this column.

For now, could you please create a test posts (including an excerpt) and add a simple unique string (i.e. garrymill) in it. Then kindly try a new search and replace on this string to see if it is replaced or not.

    Thank you.

    Hi,

So I ran the test that you recommended and it found the unique string excerpt in a dry run. I then ran it and replaced it with a new excerpt. It said that the update was successful but when I looked at the excerpt field, it was unchanged. I then ran another dry run looking for the original excerpt string but it couldn’t find it anymore even though it still displays within the excerpt field.

Best I can tell, the database has been updated but the excerpt field isn’t pulling that new data. I have successfully updated content in the main body of posts and the new content has displayed properly. It seems to just be the excerpt field that isn’t working properly.

Also, we currently don’t have any active caching plugins on the site.

Do you have any idea why this would be happening?

    Hi @garrymill2000,

This is a bit difficult to debug, as we do not have much information regarding your site.

If you try to manually edit this excerpt field, are your changes being saved?

    Thank you.
