Replacement for wp_list_cat

I am modifying a theme, and I visited the documentation for wp_list_cat to determine what the parameters meant. There was a note that said wp_list_cat has been deprecated and my be replaced. Being a proactive individual I thought “OK, if it’s being replaced, I might as well use the new function now”. So, I went on a search for “replacement for wp_list_cat” and “wp_list_cat replaced with”… Imagine my surprise when I could not find anything anywhere that says – “replace wp_list_cat with ???????”.

So, is there a place – somewhere – where these changes are documented?
