I would like to use TablePress to create a filterable list of projects (rather than only searchable), as in the referenced “Featured Projects” page (which was created with the somewhat limited functionality of the “Projects” module in Divi theme. I’d like to use TablePress instead.

So ideally, the table would look like whatyou see on that page, but include the category buttons at the top as in the sample page. I don’t mind if the search function is available too, but I need to be able to show the categories atop the table to allow visitors to see the list of categories and then click on the category of their choice, rather than having to guess what categories are available. Is this possible with TablePress? Thank you.

The page I need help with: [log in to see the link]

Hey Tobias. I’m sorry to bother you again. I have purchased the premium/pro plugin and am attempting to configure the filtering. I have activated the Automatic Filtering module, and have gone back to edit the table, per the Usage instructions on this page: Automatic Filter – TablePress

However, I am not seeing anything that allows me to activate and configure the feature in that edit screen. What am I missing? I feel like the documentation on that page isn’t very clear and there is nothing on the edit screen called “Automatic Filtering” that would lead me to think that’s where I would configure this.

My assumption is that I should be able to generate a URL for each category (the buttons) that would filter the results when clicked. Ideally, I would add this URL to a different page for each category. To be clear, the different page is an overview of the service provided. The URL/link would lead to the filtered table showing only those categories that apply to the content of the other page. Here is a screenshot of my current settings as selected in the table: https://app.screencast.com/Qf4YXiVpbcJm1

    Thanks again.

    Hi,

thanks for bringing this to my attention! Indeed, the documentation page for the Automatic Filtering is incorrect there. These settings are not on the “Edit” screen, but in the block settings (when using the “TablePress table” block in the block editor). In your case (because I believe you are not using the block editor, right?) you would therefore configure them via Shortcode parameters, so please use this extended Shortcode on the page:

    [table id=1 datatables_auto_filter_url_parameter=project /]

This would activate a project URL parameter, so that you could use these URLs to page where that value would be pre-filtered:

    https://hmbpe.flywheelsites.com/featured-projects/?project=Highway

    and so on.

Does this clear things up a bit? Please also feel free to directly email me (to the address from the “About” screen of TablePress Pro), as your premium license entitles you to direct email support ??

    Best wishes,
    Tobias

    Hi again Tobias.

This is still not working for me. And you are correct, I am not using the block editor. I am using Divi Builder.

Here is what I’ve done: In the Featured Projects page, I have added the first block of code from your latest reply. So if you go to the page, Featured Projects – HMB Professional Engineers (flywheelsites.com), you will see the embedded table with the new shortcode.

Then I went to one of the pages where I want to add the link to the filtered table and I added a button with the second line of code (the URL) you provided as the link. But when I click on that button, it repeatedly takes me to a “Page Not Found.”

(FYI, as a test, I also tried replacing the portion of the URL:

    /?projects=Highway

    with this string: “data-filterterm-Highway

and it DID lead to the desired Featured Projects page rather than the 404 error, but it did NOT appear to filter the results. So I changed the URL back to “projects”. Also, since “Highway” is a term that appears in all the rows, I tried replacing “Highway” with “HSIP,” which appears in only one of the rows, and it did not filter the results in that case either.)

You can see this by visiting Highway – HMB Professional Engineers (flywheelsites.com), where you’ll see a button at the bottom of the page referring to See Our Featured Highway Projects.”

Also, just FYI, I logged in to my Pro account and cannot find anywhere there an address or a link to an “about” screen so I can email you directly for support. Sorry, but I am not seeing it. Here is a screenshot of what I do see: https://app.screencast.com/hToGnNax6uE5W

Thanks for your continued support! I am really looking foward to making this work, and my client is excited about it as well.

    Best,

    Armando

    Hi Armando,

    sorry for all the trouble!

With that “About” screen and the email address, I actually meant the “TablePress” section in the admin area on your WordPress site, not the TablePress account page ?? The URL should be https://hmbpe.flywheelsites.com/wp-admin/admin.php?page=tablepress_about . Can you maybe check that again?

Now, for the URLs, we might have the “luck” that the URL parameter project is already taken, so that we’ll need to choose a different one, maybe filter. Also, I accidentally had removed the existing Shortcode parameter. So, please try again with the Shortcode

    [table id=1 datatables_button_filter=true datatables_auto_filter_url_parameter=filter /]

On https://hmbpe.flywheelsites.com/featured-projects/ everything should be working again (regarding the buttons).

In addition, you can now add links (on the other pages) to e.g.

    https://hmbpe.flywheelsites.com/featured-projects/?filter=Environmental

(That’s already the full URL, so no need to insert data-filterterm-Highway or anything like that there. Also, you will not need the button HTML code on the other pages. Just create normal links with the URL scheme from above.)

    Regards,
    Tobias
