I managed to add PayPal Standard to a different website to check this.

It seems that the options that I want are the default for PayPal Standard. I think I will use PayPal Standard until this problem is fixed, as I don’t want people abandoning the cart because they’re confused as to how to pay with PayPal.

I also had the issue of of the Sofort button appearing under the PayPal. I’m in the UK, have never heard of this before and it’s appearance made my site look dodgy. I was able to get rid of it by using the method described in the support response below, but this shouldn’t be coming up at all:

Looks like I’ll be best placed to stick to PayPal Standard for the time being.

    Hello @littleblogger

The PayPal button in the checkout is possible to be adjusted in the WooCommerce payment settings for this plugin (Gold, Blue, Silver & Black). The text on the button can be also be changed into some select options (PayPal, PayPal Checkout, PayPal Buy Now & Pay with PayPal). All these settings are found under Checkout – Customize the appearance of PayPal Checkout on the checkout page.

The screenshot you sent are not accessible for me, so I can’t give you any response on those. Let us know if there is anything else we can help you with.

    Kind regards,
    Joost

    Thank you for your reply.

I am aware that the “button” can be customised in the way you describe, however it still looks like a graphic and not a button. A customer wouldn’t be aware that it is clickable.

I don’t know why you couldn’t access those images I uploaded. I shall try them here. This image shows what the website looks like using Woocommerce PayPal Payments. . You can see that it doesn’t look like a button a customer is going to realise they have to click on.

This is what it should look like – and, indeed, looks like on PayPal Standard: . You can see, in this image, that it is obviously a button which the customer needs to press in order to pay.

I hope that this problem is fixed before support for PayPal Standard is removed.

This support forum doesn’t like adding links using the link feature, it seems. I’ll just copy and paste them.

    Hello @littleblogger

thank you for your response, now I was able to see the screenshot and yes, that makes sense. However, next to the mentioned customization there are currently no other options to adjust the PayPal button. We do have plans to adjust the positioning and text of the button, but no date can be given for this development or release.
Sorry, we have no better news for you.

Just to see what adjustments would be sufficient for you in order to continue to work with our plugin: you need the color and the text to be manually entered, correct? I am asking this so I can add these requirements for the development ticket.

    Kind regards,
    Joost

    Hello @littleblogger

I was just discussing this request and it seems the button color and text are determined by PayPal and not by the plugin. It seems we cannot change anything on that. We are still going to see if we can get more customization on the position of the button.
Unfortunately for your request, you would need to talk with PayPal itself.

    Hope this answers your questions.
    Kind regards,
    Joost
