When I replace a media item where the file name has been changed, I choose ‘Replace the file, use the new file name, and update all links’ option.

The text information I have in the IPTC Core of the file for ‘Description’ is then inserted into the media library title, Alternative Text, Caption, and Description. Of these, Alternative Text and Description are correct for that info. Whereas media library title and caption aren’t (should be empty).

To fix this I simply Replace Media again, choosing ‘Just replace the file’.

    Is this the normal approach?

I also use Media Library Assistant with some mapping rules for the image metadata.

    Thanks,

    Hi ratamatcat,

First of all, does the same happen when Media Library Assistant (and any other plugin that touches your media files) is deactivated? If so, then we can be sure it’s nothing to do with Enable Media Replace.

If the same happens when other plugins are deactivated, could you please send us some screenshots or, even better, a screen recording? I don’t fully understand the issue and would like to see what you see.

    Thank you!
