can it be deferred, or does it have to load at the start?

Site Kit places the Auto ads code as per recommended guidelines from the AdSense network. It’s not recommended to alter the position, whether you’re using Site Kit or not to place ads.

If you’re site is suitable for AMP you may be able to benefit from amp-ads. Alternatively you can try methods such as changing your ad load settings within your Auto ads configurations at adsense.google.com.

The example in the recommended guideline, the script have the async tag

But in my case, the script don’t have the async tag

@anis1287 Many thanks for checking in. I’ve spoken with the team and we’ve since created the below GitHub issue:
https://github.com/google/site-kit-wp/issues/4398

Many thanks for bringing this to our attention. We expect this to be addressed with the next plugin release, due in early December. In the meantime if you prefer to include the async attribute you can of course place your own AdSense snippet in the meantime. If doing so you can then remove the Site Kit placed snippet while keeping the AdSense module connected within Site Kit in order to be able to view your AdSense data within the Site Kit dashboards.
