    Hi everyone,

Sorry if this is a stupid question, but I’m at my wits end trying to get Hummingbird’s asset optimization to work. I was using the automatic optimization for a while, but it never helped with my render blocking resources. On Monday I decided to try it manually, testing each asset one by one to determine where to move them. I was able to move most of them to the footer, and some others inline. However, a new test today is showing at least 28 resources still render blocking. Absolutely no change. Any ideas on what else I can try? No matter how many tutorials I watch, this part of Hummingbird makes no sense to me…

    Hi there @emmelinegb

Judging by what I see in source code for your page, it looks like you have the Performance options enabled in the Jetpack plugin, and possibly another cache plugin active as well.

Both of which might be interfering with Hummingbird, so you may want to test your Asset Optimization configuration again with other cache plugins/options deactivated.

However, I just ran tests at Pagespeed and GTMetrix for your page, and the results are actually very good:
    https://gtmetrix.com/reports/fierceandradiant.com/WsPVQ6co/
    https://developers.google.com/speed/pagespeed/insights/?url=https%3A%2F%2Ffierceandradiant.com%2F&tab=desktop

So I’m guessing you’ve been tweaking things a bit more since you posted this ticket?

At any rate, you may want to check out this guide if you haven’t already: https://premium.wpmudev.org/docs/wpmu-dev-setting-configurations/wpmu-dev-performance-optimization-guide/

Specifically the “Advanced Asset Optimization with Hummingbird” chapter where we outline our favorite workflow for getting things nicely set up in Asset Optimization. ??

    Cheers!

    Thanks Patrick,

That did seem to help! It’s still showing a few render-blocking resources, but there are way less, so I’ll take it.

I’m a little confused though, as PageSpeed Insights is still showing a very low score on my end (31 performance score with a speed index of 10.5s). I’m not sure why we are getting such different results. It jumped a little higher in Hummingbird now, but my mobile speed is still significantly lower than my desktop speed, and most of my readers are on mobile.

Regarding the other thread, I also still see the “defer offscreen images” message in both PageSpeed and Hummingbird, with an effect of ~2.7s

    Hi again @emmelinegb

Apologies for the response delay here.

Mobile performance scores will always be lower than desktop scores, no matter how well your site performs otherwise.

But even if the scores from Pagespeed, GTMetrix, etc aren’t in the top 90s, don’t stress it too much. Most important metric is user experience, as happy users will stick around longer and will come back again… Google loves that. ??

Your site loads in less than 2 seconds, and that’s awesome!
