In the Widget Control Panel I want my Text Widgets to have more descriptive names (rather than Text1, Text2, Text3, etc). Does anyone know how to change it? Or maybe just add another line underneath stating its “title” perhaps?

    Please advise! Thank you!

Short of making your own widget plugin, there is no good way to do this.

Can you point me toward an alternative text widget plug-in that might have this feature?

    None that I’m aware of.

I cannot believe that the question has not been successfully answered.

I have changed the titles of widgets to what I want by clicking on the rightside icon in the widget admin and renaming iit in the dialogue box that appears.

However their is a widget I cannot change the title to – Links. It has no facility to do so and ask if their is a way to do it? Only for the Links widget.

the question refers to the words “TEXT 1, TEXT 2” etc in the widget control panel – not the contents of the widget nor how the widget appears on the web page.

Hello, I have solved this, please refer to this topic for more information, also you may check this for screen shots ??

    Thanks in Advance!

That was then, this is now. There are replacement text widget plugins out there that will let you change the name of the widget on the widgets panel, if you really want to do so.

perhaps you could name one or two. i’ve searched and tried a few, but they all seem to use the ‘title’ which also appears on the web page. i just want to change the words ‘text 1, text 2,” etc to something meaningful.

Oh, I don’t know of any that have a separate name from the Title. Never seen anybody request that.

I don’t see the point in it much myself, because I don’t frequently change my sidebar widgets around and for the few text widgets I am using, I can easily click them and see which widget they are without too much difficulty. If I was using, say, about 8 text widgets, then it might be useful, but I’m only using 2.

My solution works for all default widgets :), text, RSS and Categories. ??
