I used the rename login page option that is now a part of this plugin and after doing so, I am having problems logging in from multiple devices/computers. The computer that I was on when I made the change is working fine (which is my home PC). When I go to the custom URL from my work computer or my smartphone, I get the login page as expected. I then enter my details and I immediately get a “403 Forbidden” error. This same thing happened when I tried another similar plugin that renames the wp-login page. I ended up having to remove that plugin as I could never get it to work.

I have cleared my temp and cache files from both the working and non-working devices. I also have tried multiple browsers. I made the change to the URL more than a week ago so any DNS issues should be resolved. Without failure though, I can still login just fine from my home computer but nowhere else.

Any idea what might be causing this?

    Thanks!

  • @mbnocx – thanks for the tip, you did a lot of work. I’ll get to this a lot later!! Will advise.

    JUST a quick TEST:

Did not uninstall/deactivate or fiddle with htaccess code.

Did a quick removal of the tick against ‘Proxy Comment Posting’- reinstated Rename page URL – still failed on my laptop.

Would tend to say this confirms an earlier .htaccess code that is not being removed.

I updated to the latest version and activated the “Brute Force” option and changed the wp-login.php just “login”. Now I can no longer log in.

Is there anywhere I can turn off the Brute Force option via FTP?

Which “Brute Force” feature are you referring to? (Cookie-based?)

To prevent/solve the issues seen in this and other similar threads:
In the next version of the plugin we have introduced code to prevent people from having both the rename login page and cookie-based features active at the same time. We will be releasing an updated version soon.

    No.
Deactivate the AIOWPS plugin via FTP by renaming this plugins folder.
(see this video and fast forward to 09:49)

Then just clean up your .htaccess file by deleting all of the code between and including the following tags:
    # BEGIN All In One WP Security
    # END All In One WP Security

Hi WpSolutions, Back Again – On a new site now and using the Latest Version of the Plugin, Brute Force ‘rename URL’ – issues:
    1. Set up and works fine from my PC as a bookmark: https://www.bluepacific-the-entrance.com/Buddy1a
    2. Give the URL to the User and it fails with error: “Please log in to access the WordPress admin area.”
    3. If I delete my Chrome Browsing History, then BINGO I get the same situation error – WHY?

Please NOTE: I have taken your previous advice and via FTP renamed the plugin – Edited the .htaccess file and removed all code. Then yes I have normal access via standard Login.php, site is fully accessible.
I then re-activate the PLugin (using yr tutorial – thanks) & reset the security features and all is fine until I delete Browsing History – then again I get a fail.
