Rename Author in URL

I’m using the Authors feature to list all authors (I’ve made a custom page template with a list of authors with photos, bios, etc). This custom page has been titled ‘Employees’ however the URL still has /authors/.

Is there a way to go in and change this to something like ’employees’ or ‘team’? I’m not opposed to changing the WP core as any changes can be repeated later.
