• Hello,

I am trying to make my website page that I unpublished not show up in Google rankings so that my other pages can rank higher. When I click on the page that I made private, though still appears online, the page says “FILE NOT FOUND”.

How can I remove this page from Google searches (without completely deleting the page)?

    Thank you!

The page I need help with: [log in to see the link]

  • There’s a tool in Google Search Console to request the removal of a URL or file from Google’s index. But after submitting this request, it’s ultimately up to Google… and there’s not a whole lot you can do from your WordPress site (other than making the page inaccessible, which you’ve done already).

Completely deleting the page will NOT make any difference… for, as far as Google and your site’s visitors are concerned, making it “unpublished” has precisely the same effect as deleting it: in both cases, the page is unavailable (in technical terms, an HTTP response code of 404 is sent by your server).
