Removing preset character from site title

    Hey guys,

    The title for my website is “Oliver Pohlmann – Surrey / London Freelance Photographer”

    https://oliverpohlmann.com/

    However, there’s a ” | ” automatically added to the end of the title ie, “Oliver Pohlmann – Surrey / London Freelance Photographer | “

    This isn’t visible in the WP admin/settings field and have spent the last hour trying to locate it in my FTP files.

    Can anyone point me in the right direction as to where this character is located file-wise?

    It is coming from this, <title>Oliver Pohlmann – Surrey / London Freelance Photographer | </title> in the source code. Check settings, general in the dashboard.

    Yes, I know it’s coming from the <title>. The general settings has the title field in which I’ve written the “Oliver Pohlmann – Surrey / London Freelance Photographer” part. However, as per my original post, it’s automatically adding the ” | ” character. I cannot locate the origin of this character.

    You must have an SEO, plugin or theme settings
    that you also entered the title.

    It is in your header. If you look at the page source code you will see:-

    <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC “-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN” “https://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd”&gt;
    <html xmlns=”https://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml&#8221; dir=”ltr” lang=”en-US”>
    <head profile=”https://gmpg.org/xfn/11″&gt;
    <title>Oliver Pohlmann – Surrey / London Freelance Photographer | </title>

    That probably means that when you set up your theme header or title you may have accidentally typed it in.

    The other place to look at is in your wordpress admin panel, Settings > General. Here there are two fields:-

    1. Site Title … yours is I think: Oliver Pohlmann Surrey / London Freelance Photographer

    2. Tagline … I think you may have a space character here. Put something in this filed and see how it comes out.

    They show up as Site Title | Tagline and this is where the “|” comes from.
