Removing permalinks from post titles

Hi,

I have been trying to figure out how to remove the permalinks that are automatically created on all the titles of the pages and posts. I have managed to remove date, time, comments and author links from the pages, but I cant seem to be able to remove the permalinks on the titles.
I have altered the page.php, and tried editing the single.php but no luck on either one.

can anyone help?
