• Can I remove the new post editor in WP 2.0?

It’s pretty slick, easy to use and entirely too GUI for my tastes. I write my posts in html proper, by hand, and I find this new editor to be, well, entirely too user friendly for my tastes. I’m not knocking it, it’s super-keen, but my personal preference is definately for the older version in 1.5.

I have a post that I have edited 6 times now and I still can’t get the line breaks between two paragraphs to go “just so”. Even when I edit the code of the post, adding in p and /p manually, I still get a non-breaking space.

I have a huge rant on GUI editors – in general, that I’ll spare. I’m sure plenty of you are already aware of this argument. (Notepad Vs. Frontpage anyone?)

I just want to know if there is some way for me to remove this GUI crap from my WordPress 2.0? It’s slow to load, marks everything up with entirely too much HTML, and is still buggy. (eg. my curser was in the last space. I couldn’t arrow-left out of it. I could, however, arrow-up and then arrow left then arrow-down.)

Can I remove this GUI editor? If so, any suggestions as to how I might go about doing that without killing WP?

  • Go to your profile. Scroll to the bottom. Remove the tick from “Use the visual rich editor when writing”. Click “Update Profile”. Breathe sigh of relief.

Ah, I tried “Options” – “Writing” – “Users should use the visual rich editor by default” which had no effect.

I tried your solution and it works! Thank you!
