Removing Featured Image from Post

I’m trying to redesign my website and put featured images in to display on the main category pages. When I put in a featured image on a blog post, and then click on the post from its parent page, the featured image also goes on the top of the post. Is there a way to make the featured image show up on the parent page/ category main page (ex. breakfast), but NOT in the actual post its self?
