Removing Ellipses in Custom WordPress Template

The custom template I use has a different way of handling excerpts than the default WordPress excerpt settings, so installing a plugin will obviously not do the trick. However, I like how the Advanced Excerpt plugin allows you to finish the except with a sentence instead of an ellipsis.

I can eliminate the ellipsis, but I’m thinking of having the excerpt end with a sentence. What is the best way to perform that task?
