Removing/Editing content above Nav Bar

  • Hi all,

    Apologies if this is extremely straight forward fix but I wanted to seek some advice as I am new to WordPress. I have just started working with a client. Above the Navbar is a video slider.

    The issue I am having is there appears to be a title and a button that have effectively fallen behind the nav bar. I have had a look through the plugin settings but cannot seem to see an option anywhere to edit the text or the button. I have also looked at WordPress menu options and cannot see anything to help with clearing the text. When I try to edit via the theme settings, I am unable to select the slider at all.

    Apart from deleting the slider to see if that works, does anyone have any ideas?

    Hmm, I see what you mean!

    Are you trying to remove the button entirely, or make that space larger so that the button and title can be better seen?

    This might be a theme issue, it might be a plugin issue, or we might be able to help you with a bit of CSS coding.

    My suggestions:

    1. Head to wherever you found this theme and post in their support forum for assistance.

    2. If this happened after a plugin installation, you might consider going to that plugin page’s support.

    You can also tell us what you’re trying to achieve specifically (like seeing more of the button so you can edit it or removing it entirely) to see if we can’t find a code that will help you to do so. ??

    Amazing, thank you for your reply!

    I am concerned it is an issue with one of the plugins… the trouble is the site has not been edited in a few years so I am trying to pick up where the previous person left off… I am trying to get rid of everything above the nav bar including the video, the title text and the button so that the website flows correctly. I may possibly incorporate the video somewhere else in the site once I understand how to use the plugin.

    I am quite confident with CSS but I just cannot for the life of me find where I can even attempt to start to tackle the issue!!! Everything seems to be locked behind the Theme. For example if I go to edit page, all I can click is “Edit with Cornerstone”. If I try this – the nav bar and the info above the nav is out of bounds and I cannot seem to click it or edit it at all. The editor seems to not even recognise that the title, button etc is a part of the page…

    Have you got any ideas?? Is there anyway of working around the plugin and theme? I am reluctant to turn off any of the plugins without knowing for sure it is the right one. I also currently don’t have access to log ins for the theme or plugins…

    I really appreciate any help or advice, I am fresh from spending the winter and spring learning through CodeCademy which did not touch upon WordPress in their courses so I am learning on the job!

    So, you have a few options — you can look into finding where the Cornerstone Theme was developed and see if they offer support. If the theme is a few years old, it may be retired, but there’s no harm in looking!

    You may also consider changing your theme to a more current one — you can learn more about themes, what they are, and how they are used here:

    If you need to access the dashboard without a login, try manually resetting your plugins (no Dashboard access required). If that resolves the issue, reactivate each one individually until you find the cause.

    If you decide you want to switch your theme, you can access your server via SFTP or FTP, or a file manager in your hosting account’s control panel, navigate to /wp-content/themes/ and rename the directory of your currently active theme. This will force the default theme to activate and hopefully rule-out a theme-specific issue (theme functions can interfere like plugins).

    It’s looking like you’re on the right path, so I think the best advice I can give you is to explore the support codex and learn a lot! You can also visit:
