• Anyone know how to do away with the “uncategorized” slug, page, listing?

It used to serve a purpose for a few stray posts, but now I find daily duplicates from another category/feed landing there. This category doesn’t have a simple delete option, it will need to be removed code wise. Any ideas?

You have to have at least one category and cannot delete the default one.

Usually only ‘duplicate’ posts end up in there if you forget to put them in another cat, or if you delete the cat they were in.

Deleting a category does not delete the posts in that category. Instead, posts that were only assigned to the deleted category are set to the category ‘Uncategorized’.

Yes. I read that too. Categories are all set, no deletions. Autoblog is recently dumping dups in uncategorized. If it doesn’t exist, I thought I’d eliminate the issue. Anyone know how to remove uncategorized ?

If any other category is made the default post category in Settings, Writing, you will be able to delete the ‘Uncategorized’ category.

All posts to which you have not added a category will end up under whatever category you made the default.

That makes sense, Arnold. My added issue is that I have 6 categories. Setting the writing to one default category other than uncategorized, I think would open up another can of worms. Again, I’d like to force posts into the category I chose for them, and not give an outlet to uncategorized. It seems that only one category is dumping dups lately, “Technology, Gadgets & Curiosities”. I don’t think I can set one default to stop this and keep others posting to their respective categories also. I think you’re on the right track though.

Okay, so when you write a post, remember to pick the category. If you pick a cat, it won’t dump it in uncategorized.

(the silly quick post option on the dashboard doesn’t let you pick cats, which pisses me off and is why I don’t use it)

You’re right, I don’t use quick post either Ipstenu. I like to use a lot of features for tags, categories, excerpts, seo, etc. Like I said, this particular problem is connected to autoblogged. Dups are posted in uncategorized along with the category I chose for the posts. So, I thought I’d remove uncategorized to stop this. Looking for a way to delete coding that includes unc… from my blog.

By Autoblog, you mean AutoBlogged? https://autoblogged.com/

Check their help docs about how to assign categories to auto-scraped posts.

I appreciate your continued ideas, but that deals with cached feeds.
I’m not having an issue with up-to-date posts. Just want to offer proper listings for my readers. Finding a post in several places on my blog, won’t give fresh content everywhere.

Okay, you said this (bolding mine):

Like I said, this particular problem is connected to autoblogged. Dups are posted in uncategorized along with the category I chose for the posts.

You just said the problem was with Autoblog. Having NO idea how that plug-in works (nor, frankly, why anyone would want it…), my understanding was this:

When a post is scraped via Autoblog, it doesn’t assign a category correctly and thus ends up uncategorized, annoying you

If that’s not what’s wrong, then you need to perhaps better explain what’s going on. If that is what’s going on, talk to the plugin makers for support, as it’s related to their stuff.

No, not the issue. It does have it’s merits when attributed correctly.

This is right from their knowledge base:

    Auto scraped posts:

AutoBlogged Not Getting Latest Posts From Feed

Category: RSS Feeds Tags: cached, caching, latest-posts, rss-feed, wordpress-posts

    Issue

You may find that AutoBlogged is not posting the latest posts from a feed. This usually occurs when the feed is cached and is not showing the latest updates.

Thanks everyone for the brainstorming session, I think I’ll try just using a “Add all to each post” setting for that category and see what comes of it.

    Close this post admin.

I could manage to do this, but I had to use SQL (“delete”). YOU MUST BE VERY CAREFUL WHEN USING THIS COMMAND. DON’T FORGET TO BACKUP YOU WP DATABASE!

There are two tables where WP stores the relationships of categories to posts. These are “wp_term_relationships” and “wp_term_taxonomy”. You can find the ID of the “uncategorized” (probably “1”) in the table “wp_terms”. Then you need only a “delete from ‘wp_term_relationships’ where ‘term_taxonomy_id’=ID_YOU_FOUND” and than “delete from ‘wp_term_taxonomy’ where ‘term_taxonomy_id’=ID_YOU_FOUND”.

This done the job for me.

Hello i’m new here and i have one question. Is it possible to install wp on my domain kredyt studencki there is a regular html website and i was wondering if installing wordpress is possible ? I don’t know if i’m posting in right category so please move my post if i’m wrong. Hope you would help noob. Marek.
